Brisbane Observations: Cicadas

I thought it was about time I started writing something about my adopted hometown of Brisbane. I have been living in Brisbane since 2008 and there are a few things which I noticed when I first came to this city that I thought were rather interesting.

One of these is cicadas. The pronunciation is either si-ka-da /sɪˈkɑːdə/ or si-kay-da /sɪˈkdə/.

These are insects who make a tremendous racket in the evenings. There is a wonderful segment from the BBC (David Attenborough) about cicadas here:
